After a successful career as a teacher, Mickey followed God’s lead and started pursuing overseas mission work in the education field. In 2009, she joined the Harvest Alliance team and promptly went to teach in Astana, Kazakhstan on a 90 day visa. This was preparatory for starting a long term mission later that year.
Mickey has over a decade of working in cities and villages throughout the Eastern European and Western Asian region in association with International School Projects. Her ministry involves working with the local teacher population and helping them learn how to use a curriculum specifically designed to educate students about the use of drugs and alcohol. The course also has sections on the value of abstinence. The curriculum has a Christian value orientation and has been adapted for use in Islamic cultures. She has also been instrumental in bringing a discipleship program to the local churches in these countries.
In addition to the educational aspect of her ministry in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, every spring Mickey has been involved in reaching and mentoring disabled men and women. She has also traveled with the Joni Erickson Tada ministries to El Salvador for wheelchair distribution and volunteers at PTSD focused retreats for Wounded Warriors.
Throughout her time on these various mission fields, Mickey has built lasting friendships and has been able to introduce these “friends” to Christ and disciple them as they grow in their relationships with Jesus. Mickey has seen doors open in each ministry to reach people with the truth about Jesus and is particularly encouraged with the women who have come to know Christ in the English clubs she has established. In every aspect of her ministry she seeks to build friendships and share Christ.
